Elaboration of feasibility studies for the regions of Krusevac & Vranje

Detailed description of project:

The overall objective is to protect the environment and natural resources. In addition, the project is supposed to serve as a contribution to the mitigation of greenhouse gases resulting from improper management of municipal solid waste in Serbia.

The specific objective is to prepare two feasibility studies, one for each of the two regions, aiming at the development of an integrated solid waste management system, which takes into account the full range of municipal waste streams to be managed by each region, and the specific environmental, economic, and social situation in each project area.

The Project is structured in 4 phases:

  • Inception Phase (First Phase): Review of existing situation in each region, and analysis of existing problems in the project areas;
  • Concept Phase (Second Phase): Development of an ISWM concept, which includes a landfill concept with site selection, comprising an assessment of the concept to pre-feasibility level;
  • Feasibility Study (Third Phase): Feasibility assessment of the selected measures involving the development of preliminary designs and ESIA of the proposed system;
  • Technical Assistance Support (Fourth Phase): Provision of additional support to the PIU and PEAs in terms of institutional strengthening, know-how transfer, and capacity building.
