Preparation of Feasibility Studies for Konsko and Pepelishte Irrigation Schemes, Irrigation Programme North Macedonia

Detailed description of project:

The Irrigation Programme North Macedonia concerns the rehabilitation and extension of up to 4 irrigation schemes in the Vardar River Basin. The Programme’s objective is the sustainable increase of agricultural output (production and productivity) in selected irrigation schemes by improved availability and efficient use of water resources. This is to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the agricultural population in the Southern Vardar River Basin. Through this contract, AHT carries out feasibility studies for the irrigation schemes Konsko (6,000 – 8,000 ha) and Pepelishte (2,200 ha) including environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA) according to KfW’s ESIA Guidelines.

Type of services provided:

  • Technical investigations, hydrological analyses, agricultural, socio-economic data collection (baseline survey), topographic analysis, dimensioning and layout of the main and distribution irrigation networks, feasibility level designs, financial and economic analysis, preparation of options and selection of best option, finalizing designs, development of institutional set-up of operational phase of irrigation networks;
  • ESIAs according to KfW guidelines and North Macedonian legislation.
