Technical assistance for the improvement and calibration of the WEAP - Nebhana model for the Nebhana water system located in the Kairouan region in central Tunisia
Detailed description of project:
The project is integrated into the ongoing GIZ programme: “Support for Integrated Water Resources Management – AGIRE II” and aims to establish mechanisms and instruments that allow for the planning and monitoring of sustainable IWRM in pilot zones (Kairouan). Within the first phase of the project a WEAP model of the Nebhana water system has been developed at the regional level for the CRDA (Commissariat Régional au Développement Agricole) Kairouan to promote effective decision-making processes. The model has been developed conjointly and iteratively by and for the Tunisian water sector administration, and particularly by its’ multidisciplinary WEAP team. The services of the consultant include the following three components: (1) Supporting and accompanying the WEAP team in improving the 1st version of the WEAP- Nebhana model available at the CRDA Kairouan; (2) update the reporting tool of the model and; (3) conduct training sessions for the WEAP team to acquire skills in the application of the reporting tool as well as in the validation and communication of the modelling results. |
Type of services provided:
Support the WEAP team to analyse the data base collection delivered by the partner: (1) Approval of the data base for the update of the 1st version of the WEAP Nebhana model through the analysis of the provided data to identify gaps, improbabilities, and errors; (2) format adequately the delivered data; (3) information about and analysis of other existing WEAP models in the Kairouan region and the possibility of integrating them into the WEAP Nebhana model. Support the WEAP team to improve the WEAP-Nebhana model: (1) Integration of the newly updated data into the WEAP-Nebhana model and support for the WEAP team to test the reliability of the 1st version; (2) Integration of new data for the requested sites; (3) Integration of the data related to water quality; (4) Integration of the economic data (cost-benefit analysis); (5) The presentation of the first draft of the updated model to the project partners for validation; (6) The Integration of the partners’ remarks and adjustments into the draft model prior to the final delivery. Update and pre-installation of new management scenarios: (1) Update of the reference scenarios in the WEAP Nebhana model; (2) establish at least three pre-installed water management scenarios defined by the WEAP team; (3) Recapitulate the results in a written summary. Update the reporting tool: (1) update the reporting tool with the goal of realising a graphic interface that permits the selection of a certain number of parameters and extracts results; (2) exportation of results in form of tables that can be read by any text editing program, excel/word for example, or in a report format like pdf. Conduct trainings for the WEAP team in Tunisia: (1) Realisation of several training sessions for the WEAP team including the following elements: characteristics of the model; critical analysis of the necessary data base and identification of data limits, omissions and mistakes; capacity to update the model; creation of new scenarios; simulation of extracting reports; (2) Realisation of 8 working sessions with selected members of the WEAP team to improve the WEAP-Nebhana model. |
