Assessment of Three Wastewater Treatment Plants
Detailed description of project:
The objective of this study was to assess the suitability and feasibility of the three wastewater treatment plants in Hadjout (70,000 PE), Chenoua (70,000 PE) and Boumerdès (67,500 PE) for a future reuse of treated effluent in agriculture. The following aspects were taken into account:
- Regulatory framework;
- Organisational and operational set-up;
- Financial and economic aspects;
- Quantity and quality of the effluent;
- Agricultural practices downstream from the WWTPs;
- Design of pilot project.
Type of services provided:
- Examination of the contamination risks and recommendations for remedial action;
- Agricultural assessment and identification of possible farm land suitable for irrigation (up to 560 ha);
- Evaluation of the agro-pedological context and agricultural practices;
- Assessment of existing irrigation infrastructure;
- Assessment of O&M practices of existing irrigation infrastructure;
- Estimation of the future water demand and of potential users;
- Definition of agricultural requirements concerning the chemical and bacteriological characteristics of the effluent;
- Preparation and definition of specifications for a pilot project implementation.
