Official ceremony for the handing over of equipment and materials in the fight against COVID-19

On 19 May 2020, a ceremony was held in Koulikoro to symbolically hand over equipment and materials to support prevention of COVID-19. The IPRO-IRRIGAR and IPRO-REAGIR small-scale irrigation projects provided the following equipment and materials to local and regional authorities:

  • 215 hand washing kits ;
  • 240 vials of hydroalcoholic solution;
  • 100 bottles of bleach;
  • 100 cartons of disinfectant;
  • 615 bottles of liquid soap;
  • 270 packs of gloves;
  • 300 fabric masks;
  • 295 packs of surgical masks;
  • 20 gel dispensers;
  • 150 packs of tissues;
  • 320 awareness posters

This equipment has been provided to several implementing partners (governorate, deconcentrated technical services) and to the direct and indirect beneficiaries of the projects' intervention sites, such as the communities, villages and schools attached to the projects' intervention sites. The ceremony was co-sponsored by Mr. Moulaye Ahmed Boubacar, Minister of Agriculture, and H.E. Dr. Dietrich Pohl, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The small-scale irrigation projects are co-financed by the German Cooperation, the Canadian Cooperation, USAID, and the European Union via KfW.

In the regions of Koulikoro, Sikasso and Mopti, the projects contribute to food security and the strengthening of the nutritional status of the population by increasing and diversifying agricultural production and improving access to products from small-scale irrigation. To this end, the projects build and rehabilitate hydro-agricultural infrastructure such as micro-dams, water spreading weirs, lowlands, access roads and storage warehouses. In addition, the population at each site is accompanied over two to three years through various supervision and training measures, ranging from literacy to product marketing techniques.
