Drone Training for the Remote Management, Monitoring and Verification System (RMMV) for the PISA 2 project in Niger
Created by Andreas Havemann |Within the framework of the project "Promotion of Smallholder Irrigation and Food Security - Phase 2" (PISA 2) financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via KfW, AHT has carried out a training in the use of drones for the project’s Remote Management, Monitoring and Verification system (RMMV) in the beginning of August 2022.
The PISA 2 project aims at increasing the production and income of smallholder farmers and herders through small-scale irrigation and fodder production, as well as at improving the conditions for sustainable and climate-smart use of natural resources in the regions of Tillabéry, Tahoua, and Agadez, in order to contribute to the promotion of productive agriculture and food security in Niger.
In this targeted training, monitoring and evaluation experts and agronomists from the three project antennas in Tillabery, Tahoua, Agadez and the Project Management Unit (PMU) were trained in the planning and execution of manual and automated drone missions. In the pilot phase, the trained experts will conduct drone missions for small-scale irrigation schemes, while the Nigerian company Drone Africa Services (DAS) will capture drone images of the fossil valleys (approximately 325 km) in the three regions covered by the project. These images will be the basis for reference maps that will be updated twice a year for the duration of the project, serving to facilitate the monitoring and verification of project progress and results.
