Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) Partnership ForumCreated by Kristin Seeber |
GIZ and AHT GROUP GmbH jointly supported the LCBC to hold the first meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) Partnership Forum for the Lower Logone Floodplain, from 8-9 September 2021 in Bongor, Chad.
The meeting brought together 60 decentralised and traditional authorities from Cameroon and Chad from the Lower Logone floodplain, to discuss their transboundary problems in IWRM and to agree that the implementation of such a partnership forum is central to tackling the problems of their region.
The LCBC is an organisation of states and is mandated to manage the waters of the Lake Chad Basin, including shared water resources, conserve ecosystems, and promote regional integration, peace, security and development in the Lake Chad Basin region.
In this context, German development cooperation through GIZ (supported by AHT GROUP GmbH) accompanies the LCBC in the implementation of transboundary activities to support not only the efforts of the LCBC but also those of the member states.
The Partnership Forum is in line with the LCBC Water Charter, which aims to give voice and support to the local population (different water users) in addressing climate change and related problems.
