The Water Resources Management and Irrigation Department of AHT has amassed considerable experience in IWRM, building strong, highly qualified and regionally experienced teams that can apply knowledge from various disciplines as well as the insights from diverse stakeholders, to facilitate the development and implementation of efficient, equitable and sustainable solutions to water and development issues.
We currently provide support to IWRM processes through projects in several countries concentrating on three main areas to facilitate an intersectoral, participatory approach to water management: (i) supporting the development of an enabling environment for IWRM, (ii) clarifying the roles of institutions and facilitating institutional development as well as (iii) developing appropriate management tools and training for their use.
Today, irrigated agriculture is regarded as a pivotal means in the fight against hunger and poverty. Key elements of new strategies and concepts for sustainable irrigation management are: (i) a stronger participation and involvement of water users in the planning and implementation process, (ii) rigorous emphasis on operational aspects already in the design phase, (iii) investment in modern water saving technologies (water use efficiency), (iv) optimisation of operations and maintenance of irrigation schemes and (v) the introduction of transparent water tariffs.
By virtue of its long-standing experience in the irrigation sector, AHT GROUP AG is actively involved in the planning, design, implementation and management of numerous irrigation and drainage systems worldwide.
