Short project description

Integrated Coastal Protection and Mangrove Belt Rehabilitation in Ca Mau and Kien Giang, Vietnam

Cost-effective and sustainable coastal protection e.g., by improving cooperation between the national dyke and the mangrove rehabilitation program are envisaged.

Further, the livelihood of coastal people, especially the poorer section, depends on mangrove resources and mud flats. Therefore, sustaining mangrove protection requires reducing this threat by income generating activities in coastal protection and compensation measures for trading-off alternative livelihood. Mitigate the impacts of the sea level rise (SLR) and extreme climate events and climate variability through the proposed adaptation measures.


  • to develop more resilient and cost-effective coast protection in the project region


  • To build and consolidate existing sea dykes to get grade 2 sea dykes for salinity prevention, tide and sea level rise, natural calamities, storms prevention and mitigation, and wave intensity reduction to create alluvial grounds for afforestation
  • To plant, protect and develop coastal protection forests in order to improve the effectiveness of the coastal protection forest system and to increase the value of biodiversity
  • To improve capacity and effectiveness of forest management, utilization and protection and at the same time enhance the awareness and responsibility of people living in the coastal area for forest protection and development in climate change and sea level rise
  • To improve the living standards of the coastal population through sustainable livelihood models

The project is designed with the following components:

  • Component 2: Forest rehabilitation and development
  • Component 3: Livelihood development
  • Component 4: Training, capacity building
  • Component 5: Monitoring and evaluation
  • Component 6: Project management

Job description


Detailed requirements

Postgraduate university degree in a relevant field (at least Master’s degree)

Country/Regional experience:
Vietnam working experience is considered mandatory

Oral and written proficiency in English and at least limited working proficiency in Vietnamese language is considered mandatory

Expertise / Profile:
Proven work experience in ONE of the following areas:

  • Coastal engineering
  • Mangrove management and forestry/agroforestry
  • Participative Land-use planning
  • Livelihood development/rural development
  • Training/capacity building
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Value chain/micro credits/small and medium enterprises
  • biodiversity conservation
  • Awareness raising

Professional experience in Development Cooperation and donor-funded projects in the field of natural resource management or livelihoods .

Experience as Team Leader (m-f-d)  - CTA or equivalent - or other senior management position within an FC project preferred (e.g., WB; KfW; ADB; etc).
